Nursery Care: Rooms

The nursery is divided into three main sections: Babies (0-18months),
Tots (18months to 2.5 years) and Pre-School (2 to5 years).
With all the rooms we strongly encourage outdoor play and fresh air. Whether its play in the garden on the bikes, cars, slides or a stroll to the park or playing and singing songs in our outdoor classroom.
Outside each of our rooms we display the weekly planning for all parents to see.

Babies

“Babies feel safe and secure” OFSTED 2008

The Baby Room is decorated in neutral colours and equipped with soft
play cushions, rest areas, beanbags and mats to provide a safe, homely environment for your child. Each day, the staff plan activities that are appropriate to the children in their care that day.
We strongly believe that children of this age need lots of one to one attention so we never have more than six babies in the room at once. We feel that any more than six would be more like 'crowd control' than childcare! That is not what we are here for. We want each child to be able to have attention and special care and space to move freely around a large room.

Tots

“In the Toddler room, resources are used effectively to encourage children to explore and find things out for themselves.” OFSTED 2008

The Tots Room provides a safe, fun environment for your toddler where
they can begin to discover more about themselves! The activities in this room are structured daily. Activities are fun and have educational value. When you feel your child is ready to start toilet training, please inform your child's keyworker who will work alongside you on this.
Tots room follows a much more structured routine than the baby room, as most children are in the same routine by this stage. However, if your child has any special requirements (such as additional rest times) then this can be catered for easily.

Pre-school

“Staff are excellent role models and particularly help children to develop language skills by asking questions that require a response of more than one word, thus encouraging sentence development.” OFSTED 2008

Our pre-school aims to give your child a head start in their Foundation Stage Curriculum. We hope that when your child goes off to school, they will have gained a love of learning from their time with us, and be ready to take on the challenge of primary education.
Our pre-school children have specific one to one time set aside with their keyworker where they will start to introduce reading. We encourage parental involvement by sending a reading book home each week for you to share with your child.
Children in this room are exposed to a wide range of art and craft activities and are also taught Phonics as part of registration time each morning.

In the pre-school room, tasks are well planned to ensure that children have access to a wide range of activities that cover all areas of learning.”
OFSTED 2008

It is our belief that children respond well to routine. Our day follows a similar structure each day, making sure we have time for free play, adult led activities, role play, music, singing, outside play, curriculum activities and rest times. Our staff work hard to ensure that the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is followed closely.
